With the washer unplugged, follow its instructions to remove the agitator cap or softener dispenser and compare the fastener. 425059 is the earlier white wing-nut style shown here. Do not substitute it for the later 420665 hex-head bolt. A model name may cover different production versions, so match the product code and old fastener as well as the model.

Check the retaining wing nut

Check whether the retaining wing nut is missing, cracked or no longer gripping. A replacement may help if that fastener is the fault. Fit the matching nut by hand, tighten snugly without forcing it, and refit the cap or dispenser before using the washer.
