why does my electric hotplate stay too hot on a low setting?
some on-and-off cycling is normal for an electric hotplate, but persistent excessive heat at a low setting needs checking. a faulty regulator is one possibility, not a diagnosis from the setting alone.
record which hotplate and setting were affected and whether the knob looks cracked or loose. do not repeat overheating as a test, lift a hardwired cooktop or open the controls. if it will not turn off, follow the manual's safe isolation instructions and arrange urgent electrical service.
the linked guide explains assessment of the regulator behind the knob. the 575557P kit is for a single hotplate and includes instructions 575558; connection arrangements differ by model, position and pilot arrangement. fitting and electrical testing belong to the repairer. a matching-looking knob or regulator does not establish the correct control.
first checks
- use existing observations
record the affected position and what happened when you changed the setting, without recreating uncontrolled heating.
