why does my gas cooktop knob no longer trigger ignition?
if pressing or turning the knob no longer produces the usual ignition clicks, leave the affected burner off. the knob switch or another ignition component may be responsible.
record what you already observed: one or several controls affected, no clicks, or clicks continuing without ignition. do not repeatedly try to light the burner, remove knobs or panels, or release more gas as a test. use an accessible label or paperwork for the complete model and suffix.
the linked guide explains arranging an ignition assessment by a suitably qualified gas-appliance repairer. the A/401/14 is one clip-on microswitch with two leads, not the spark generator or a full switch set. it should only be selected after the repairer identifies that switch as faulty and checks the exact model. gas and electrical access and safety checks stay with the repairer.
first checks
- record, do not reproduce
write down the existing clicking behaviour and affected controls while leaving the burner off.
