how to check disposable carbon filters for a recirculating rangehood
check that the rangehood recirculates air and uses disposable carbon cartridges before ordering. this guide covers filter identification and preparation, not a complete change procedure for every listed hood.
the linked two-packs are different choices: one uses cartridges about 175 x 35 mm; ULX251 uses an outer rim about 195 mm across and is about 34 mm thick. carbon reduces cooking odours and is replaced when saturated, not washed.

scope: keep the metal grease filters fitted. carbon cartridges do not include venting or fascia parts for a recirculation conversion. match the full model, product code, centre lock and clearance.
steps
- check recirculating use
check the full model and any product code. the manual must call for carbon cartridges when filtered air returns to the room. these packs do not supply venting or fascia parts for a conversion.
- compare the cartridge and mount
switch off and disconnect power before permitted filter access. compare the old cartridge's diameter, thickness, centre opening, tabs and clearance. hood width alone is not enough. leave inaccessible mounts alone.
- identify the locking arrangement
for EP52UMS2, two CF110-format filters use a centre mount that is aligned and twisted into its locking position, not pushed straight on. do not transfer that action or assume a removal direction for other hoods. WRI525BC pnc 95600682400 still needs its mounting and clearance checked.
- get the exact change instructions
obtain the release and refitting instructions for the actual hood before removing its cartridges. do not force a mount or run the hood with loose parts. after a permitted change, the required cartridges must stay clear of the fan and the metal grease filters must be securely refitted. if smells or weak airflow remain, check the hood's other maintenance needs rather than adding more carbon filters.
diy warning
working on appliances can involve mains electricity, water and moving parts. always disconnect power and water before you start. in Australia, gas work must be done by a licensed gasfitter, and fixed (hard-wired) electrical work by a licensed electrician. everything on this site is guidance only, and any repair you carry out is at your own risk. we are not responsible for any damage or injury caused by attempting a repair. if you are not confident, please use a qualified technician.
