when to get help
- a fan that does not run or continued poor airflow after filter care needs service. leave duct and electrical work to a qualified person.
steps
- check how the hood is set up
use the installation paperwork or model guide to establish whether air is ducted outside or returned to the kitchen. do not dismantle ducting to find out.
- check any carbon filter
on a recirculating model, replace a spent carbon filter with the type specified for that hood.
- clean the washable metal filter
with the hood off, power safely isolated and the filter cool, soak the washable metal filter in warm soapy water for about ten minutes, then brush and rinse. avoid harsh chemicals that can tarnish the mesh. dry it fully before refitting.
