how to check a smartwatch's four-contact charging cable

inspect the unplugged cable and check that the watch contacts are clean and completely dry before deciding the lead has failed. connect only a lead that matches the full watch model and port.

the pack has two braided leads about 1 m long, each with a straight oval four-contact watch plug and a tethered USB-A/USB-C adaptor. no watch or wall charger is supplied.

scope: Descent and MARQ use different charging arrangements. do not scrape contacts with metal, charge a wet port or force the connector. the adaptor changes only the usb power end.

steps

  1. check the watch and cable

check the complete watch model in the compatibility checker and compare the charging port, not just the brand. inspect the unplugged cable for damage. check that the watch contacts are clean and dry, especially after swimming or exercise.

  2. clean and dry

follow the watch manual to clean the contacts. let the port and surrounding area dry completely. do not scrape contacts with metal or charge a wet port.

  3. connect the lead

fit the four-contact watch plug without force. connect USB-A or the attached USB-C adaptor to a suitable usb power source. the adaptor changes only the power end, not the watch plug.

  4. check for charging

look for charging on the watch display. if it does not appear, check the usb source and connection. stop using a damaged cable or a plug that will not seat. continued trouble needs a check of the port, watch or cable.
