why is water dripping from my washing machine or washer-dryer door?
on front-loading washing machines and washer-dryers, fabric or dirt between the rubber seal and door can let water through. a torn, distorted or displaced seal needs assessment rather than more cleaning.
model scope: front-loading machines with a rubber door seal.
stop the machine and wait until it is cool and the door releases normally. do not force a locked door or open against retained water. once safe, remove trapped fabric and wipe exposed rubber and reachable folds with warm water and a soft cloth.
the linked seal-care guide explains looking for splits or displaced rubber without stretching the seal or removing retaining clamps. dry reachable folds and avoid abrasives. this is not a top-loader tub-seal procedure.
keep a machine with a split or displaced seal, or continued door leakage, out of use and arrange service. cleaning may remove a sealing obstruction but cannot mend damaged rubber or establish the source of every leak.
possible causes
- clothing is caught in the door seal
- dirt is preventing the door sealing evenly
- the rubber is torn, distorted or out of place
