why will my dishwasher door not close freely?
a tray, long utensil or crooked basket can prevent a dishwasher door reaching its latch. clear the load and check basket travel before assuming the latch itself is faulty.
switch off and let hot dishes and parts cool before rearranging them. look for items projecting beyond the basket and check that rack inserts are seated and baskets roll fully in. close the door gently; pressure is not a diagnostic test.
the linked loading guide covers clearance around the door, dispenser and spray arms. if a basket catches or tilts, the separate wheel guide may help with a matching removable clip-on wheel, but it does not cover bent rails, broken mounting wire or height-adjuster repairs.
if the door still will not close once the load is clear, arrange assessment. do not bend runners, force the latch or bypass the door protection to start a cycle.
possible causes
- a tray or utensil sticking out
- a basket sitting out of position
- a damaged basket wheel or door closure
solutions
- how to load a dishwasher so the spray arms can turnseparate nested dishes and move protruding utensils, then turn the arms gently by hand. remove a blocked arm only by the model's permitted method.
- how to check a clip-on dishwasher basket wheel before replacementinspect the wheel, retaining clip and basket mounting before choosing a replacement. a matching clip-on wheel is not the same repair as a bent rail or height adjuster.
