why is my microwave turntable rattling or not turning?
food on the roller track or a tray sitting off its drive fitting can make a microwave turntable rattle or stop. these checks apply only to turntable-equipped microwaves, not flatbed models.
model scope: microwaves with a turntable.
unplug and let the glass cool before removing the tray and roller ring where fitted. the linked cleaning guide covers permitted washing and gentle wiping of food deposits from the floor and roller track, keeping liquid out of vents.
dry the pieces, seat the roller ring and engage the tray on its proper fitting. check that the container clears the cavity walls and all required supports are refitted. never run the microwave empty or with the tray removed to test the motor.
a cracked tray, damaged cavity or door, continued grinding or rotation failure needs service. do not open the case or reach the drive motor, even with the appliance unplugged.
possible causes
- food deposits on the roller track
- the roller ring sitting out of place
- the tray is obstructed or not seated on its drive fitting
